Studies in ENLIGHT universities

ENLIGHT is an alliance of European universities established in 2020. The ENLIGHT network consists of ten classical research universities: the University of the Basque Country, the University of Bern, the University of Bordeaux, Comenius University Bratislava, the University of Galway, Ghent University, the University of Groningen, the University of Göttingen, the University of Tartu, and Uppsala University. The ENLIGHT project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme and focuses primarily on the internationalisation of the field of study.

One of ENLIGHT's goals is to accelerate student mobility and promote the acquisition of international learning experiences. To support this, the University of Tartu has concluded, besides subject-specific student exchange agreements, an Erasmus+ cooperation agreement, which allows students, generally regardless of their curriculum, to apply for one-semester studies at the network’s partner universities. In addition to the traditional student exchange, ENLIGHT offers the opportunity to participate in short-term courses and enrich your studies with online courses.

University of Tartu students have the opportunity to participate, with support from the Erasmus+ programme, in short-term blended learning courses developed in cooperation between universities of the ENLIGHT network. These courses are known as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs).

A BIP combines physical and virtual mobility:

  • 5 to 14 days of in-person study at the host university;
  • virtual learning activities (online and remote) either before or after the physical mobility period;
  • a total workload of at least 3 ECTS credits;
  • the course is developed collaboratively by at least three universities within the ENLIGHT network;
  • the University of Tartu provides Erasmus+ funding to participants.

Blended mobility is open to all students, but it is particularly intended for those who, for various reasons, are unable to participate in a longer study abroad period. Additional support is available for participants with fewer opportunities.

Applications for ENLIGHT BIPs are submitted through the University of Tartu. Courses for the upcoming autumn semester are announced in April, and courses for the spring semester are announced in October. The application deadlines are 15 May and 15 November, respectively.

University of Tartu students are welcome to study as exchange students at a partner university within the ENLIGHT network with support from the Erasmus+ programme. Planning, application procedures, and administrative arrangements follow the same timeline and processes as other Erasmus+ student mobilities. However, the ENLIGHT network offers stronger cooperation links between partner universities, including university-wide Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements that provide more students with meaningful international study experiences.

Applications for Erasmus+ study mobility at the University of Tartu are submitted twice a year:

  • At the beginning of March for the autumn and spring semesters of the following academic year;
  • At the beginning of September, subject to the availability of places, for an additional application round for the spring semester of the current academic year.

ENLIGHT partners invite students (including doctoral students) to participate in:

Information on virtual and other non-Erasmus courses is delivered via UT students’ newsletter and study-field based mailing lists. Registration is mostly open via the organizing university and there is no funding for attending virtual courses. See info about ENLIGHT online courses and application process summarized for the students of the University of Tartu. Overview of the ENLIGHT partners online courses is given at website of the ENLIGHT network.
